So, Dear Reader, what things do you see, when you look around, that you didn’t think you’d be seeing?
Hello David
Profitable state-owned enterprises sold off to the private sector.
Enlightenment values under attack.
The Dunning-Kruger effect impacting hard on many blog sites.
It does seem to me that we’re looking at world that closely resembles the TV series The Walking Dead or Cormac McCarthy’s The Road perhaps preceded by a brief prelude of Feudalism.
Things I never thought I’d see in 2012? — starting from what date? If it is from December 1975, then my thoughts differ vastly from those listed.
With vice-regal dismissal of a Government which still had a majority on the floor of the Australian Parliament; and the very effective lobbing by business communities to pervert the subsequent election – I believed, pretty much correctly, that almost anything on your list was possible.
I’m so pleased that someone’s remembered all of that Colin. I believed at the time (and I’m still firmly of the view) that the preservation of democracy demanded that the Whitlam government should have been swept back into power.
Greedy landlords
Teachers who drop kids out of subjects rather than get the kids to work harder
Petrol prices that equal a house mortgage
Rampant religion
Liars – everyone lies about everything
You may be surprised (not!) but I disagree with your perceptions, especially a “theocratic America!” Seriously? America is more secular now than it has ever been.
People allowing the “planet to be destroyed?” I’m pretty sure there are more organizations, laws and people involved in “environmental protection” than ever!
I’m surprised to see ideology being equated with science.
TV channels where the TV shows are covered in ads that tell me what shows are coming on next, which prevent me from watching the show that I am trying to watch now.
TV shows on DVD, so I can avoid that problem, and also, so I can watch whatever show I want, whenever I want.
Sugar replaced with high fructose corn syrup.
People watching movies on tiny cell phone screens.
Tattoos on so many people.
Piercings in people’s lips, tongues, eyebrows, noses, and other such places.
George Lucas making changes to his original Star Wars trilogy.
More women in college than men.
Ohmygoodness, can’t find a flaw in that list.
